Road Show #2- a success!

Filed under: Random, Travel — Mochagoddess @ 4:07 pm

Another day of successful hiring… the students in Curitiba were great! Most all of them were hired and had excellent English skills which helped to place them in great jobs. It’s funny, one of the things that I’ve come to realize over the past few days is how little I really know the USA. My geography was all over the map, literally I couldn’t remember where states were and when the students started asking about towns along the I-90, 84, and 87 turnpikes, I completely was lost, even though Sam and I have traveled those roads extensively. I found myself also generalizing the Midwest, the East Coast, and West Coast telling them that the Midwest was known for it’s warm hearted people, low cost of living, and wide open spaces, the East Coast for it’s overwhelming ambiance and sometimes cold mannerisms, and the West Coast for it’s laid back, beach bum attitude. I was a bit embarrassed to have made these stereotypes and even more embarrassed that I shared them and potentially colored their ideas of America by region. Hopefully they’ll forget what I’ve said and make the most of their lived experiences as they happen. As for me, I need to get out and about the US of A!

After a quick trip to the market down the street, where I had my first fresh Coconut milk experience straight from the little hole carved out from the Coconut itself. The taste of Coconut milk is more like sweet water that’s a little cloudy. It was refreshing and heavy, as I walked around for half an hour carrying around a 5 pound bowlingball-like Coconut in the nook of my arm. I must say, I highly recommend the experience!

Tonight we’re out and about for our farewell dinner with our agent from Intercambio. No more meat tonight but potatoes with a twist… am looking forward to a day off of meat- believe it or not!

Mija, you be careful with the “gents”. No I dont want any thongs. I will just hang them in my computer room. From what I read you are having a wonderful time..Pops LOVES YOU. Here’s MOM

Mija it sounds like you are having a great time. Please be careful if you send your Dad a thong. He would need a XXL and that might cover the whole house.
Just kidding. Thats great that you are using your spanglish. Take care and be careful. Love Mom & Pepa too!

I love coconut water. One of the neighborhood festivals here in DC offers it as a festival food option and, oh! how divine!
